定村 史朗 -Sadamura Shiro-
1963年東京生まれ。中学高校の頃よりロック、ジャズ、に興味を持ち即興演奏を独学。 1984年に渡米、ボストンのバークリー音楽大学でジャズバイオリンを学んだ後、NY市立大学 CITY COLLEGE へ移籍。 当時ジャズ科のディレクターであった世界的ジャズプレーヤー、ロン・カーター氏に師事する。 88年～90年 ラテンピアニストのエディ・パルミエリ・バンドへレギュラー参加。 ニューヨーク・カーネギーホールに於ける JVC Jazz Festival、Newport Jazz festival ほか全米ツアー、 ヨーロッパのジャズフェスティバルなどで演奏。また参加アルバム「SUEÑO」がグラミー賞にノミネートされる。 2005年に即興を主体とした自己のバンド「UPLINKERS」で初リーダー作「METAMORPHOSIS」を発表、全曲ニューヨーク録音、 ゲストにエディ・パルミエリ、ロンカーター等を迎えジャズ、ファンク、ラテン、 現代音楽などを融合した話題作と各メディアで絶賛される。2012年春、28年間のアメリカ生活にピリオドを打ち帰国。 現在は日本を拠点にジャズバイオリンの第一人者として、各界のトップアーティストとジャンルを超えた独自な音楽活動を続けている。
Shiro Sadamura, Violinist
Born in Tokyo in 1963. He started playing rock and Jazz during jr. high and high school where he taught himself how to improvise just by ear. He moved to the US in 1984 and after studying jazz violin at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he transferred to the City College of New York and studied under world-renowned jazz player Ron Carter, who was the director of the jazz department at the time.
From 1988 to 1990, he was a regular member of Latin pianist Eddie Palmieri’s band and performed at the JVC Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Newport Jazz festival, toured the U.S., and performed at jazz festivals in Europe. He joined the recording session of Mr.Palmieri’s album “SUEÑO” which was Grammy Award nominee.
In 2005, he released his first album “METAMORPHOSIS” with his own improvisational based band, “UPLINKERS,” all tracks were recorded in New York. It was critically acclaimed by various media outlets for it’s fusion of jazz, funk, Latin, and contemporary music, which featured guests such as Eddie Palmieri, Matt Glaser, and Ron Carter.
In the spring of 2012, he returned to Japan after 28 years of living in the United States. Currently based in Japan, he continues to work with top artists in various fields as a leading jazz violinist, performing his own unique music that transcends genres.
